Discrimination is against the law
Cherokee County Health Services Council (CCHSC) complies with applicable federal civil rights laws and does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, national origin, age, disability, or sex. CCHSC does not exclude people or treat them less favorably because of race, color, national origin, age, disability, or sex.
National origin includes your primary language and limited English proficiency: having a limited ability to read, write, speak, or understand English.
These federal laws protect you:
- Title VI of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 protects you from discrimination based on race, color, or national origin.
- Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 protects people with disabilities.
- The Age Discrimination Act of 1975 protects you from discrimination based on age.
- Section 1557 of the Affordable Care Act protects you from discrimination based on race, color, national origin, sex, age, or disability in health programs and activities.
They protect people who take part in or apply for CCHSC's programs and activities, and members of the public. Section 504 also protects CCHSC's employees and job applicants with disabilities.

This help is free, and we provide it in a timely manner.

AmeriCorps programs
CCHSC operates its AmeriCorps VISTA project subject to the nondiscrimination requirements of section 417 of the Domestic Volunteer Service Act and the AmeriCorps VISTA regulations (45 CFR part 2556).
This program is available to all, without discrimination on the basis of race, color, sex, sexual orientation, pregnancy, religion, age, national origin, genetic information, disability, military status, familial status, political affiliation, or any other characteristic protected by law.
Read the AmeriCorps Program Civil Rights and Non-Harassment Policy (PDF) (external site). Information about these requirements is available from CCHSC and from AmeriCorps.
If you are an AmeriCorps member or volunteer, or applied to be one, and believe you were discriminated against or harassed, contact the AmeriCorps Office of Civil Rights at (202) 606-7503 or eo@americorps.gov within 30 calendar days of the discrimination or harassment. You do not have to use CCHSC's own complaint process first, and using another process does not pause the 30-day limit. AmeriCorps prohibits retaliation against anyone who raises a concern.
Anyone served by an AmeriCorps program can also contact the AmeriCorps Office of Civil Rights.
