Our commitment
Cherokee County Health Services Council (CCHSC) wants everyone to be able to use this website, including people with disabilities. We keep working to make it easier to use, and we welcome your feedback.
The standard we follow
We follow the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1, Level AA, published by the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C). This is the standard adopted by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services' Section 504 rule for organizations that receive HHS financial assistance (45 CFR 84.84).
We design and test this website against the newer WCAG 2.2, Level AA, which builds on WCAG 2.1. We also check every page for duplicate IDs, part of WCAG 2.1's Parsing criterion (4.1.1), which WCAG 2.2 removed.
Where the website stands
People using assistive technology, such as screen readers, keyboard-only navigation, and screen magnification, have not yet reviewed the whole website. Until that review is done, we cannot say that every page fully meets the standard. Some tasks also finish on websites run by other companies, which we have not tested. See "Known limitations" below.
What we have done
- Pages have clear headings and page regions, and a "Skip to main content" link.
- We chose our colors to meet WCAG contrast requirements, and automated tests check contrast on every page.
- Menus and pop-up panels work with a keyboard. They close with the Escape key and return you to where you were.
- Pages fit screens as narrow as 320 pixels without scrolling sideways.
- Nothing on the site flashes, loops, or plays sound or video by itself. Short entrance animations are turned off if your device is set to reduce motion.
- You can read every page with JavaScript turned off. The resource search needs JavaScript; without it, you can still browse the resource categories.
- Buttons, links, and menu items meet the WCAG 2.2 minimum size for touch targets.
How we test
- Automated checks with axe-core for WCAG 2.0, 2.1, and 2.2 Level A and AA rules on every page of this website, at a desktop width (1440 pixels) and a phone width (412 pixels).
- Tests at 320 pixels wide, with reduced motion turned on, and with JavaScript turned off.
- Automated tests run in Chromium, the browser engine behind Google Chrome and Microsoft Edge.
Browsers and assistive technology
We aim to support current versions of Chrome, Edge, Firefox, and Safari on computers and phones, with screen readers and screen magnifiers. The site uses features that need Chrome 111, Safari 16.4, Firefox 128, or later, so older browsers may not show pages as designed.
The site is built with HTML, CSS, and WAI-ARIA. It uses JavaScript for some features, but not to show content.
Known limitations
- Giving online. The "Give online" button opens a payment page run by Stripe, our payment processor. We have not tested Stripe's page with assistive technology. Instead, you can mail a check (the address is on our Donate page), or call us for help.
- Training request forms. Training requests use Google Forms, and the Recovery Friendly Workplace forms use Jotform. Google and Jotform run these forms, and we have not tested them. If a form does not work for you, call or email us.
- Videos. Some pages link to YouTube videos made by other organizations: the CDC, Psych Hub, and the Foundation for Recovery. When we checked on October 6, 2026, each had English captions from its owner. We do not control these videos. If you need help with one, contact us.
- AmeriCorps policy. The AmeriCorps Program Civil Rights and Non-Harassment Policy is a PDF document on AmeriCorps.gov. If you need it in another format, contact us.
- Maps. Map links open Google Maps. Our address is always written out next to the link.
- Other websites. Our Facebook and Instagram pages, some resource listings (including Facebook groups), and other organizations' websites and documents are not run by CCHSC. If you cannot get the information you need from them, contact us.
